Once participants have completed the Enter and work in confined spaces course, they will receive the nationally recognised unit of competency RIIWHS202E – Enter and work in confined spaces.
RIIWHS202E - Enter and work in confined spaces
This course will give you the skills and training to enable workers to enter and work in confined spaces safely and in accordance with relevant legislation, codes of practice, and site procedures.
COURSE OVERVIEW
This nationally recognised training is essential for personnel who are required to enter and work in confined spaces for maintenance, servicing of vessels, or other necessary tasks.
You will also learn to interpret and comply with confined space permits, understand their limitations, and perform the duties of a safety observer when required.
Confined spaces are commonly found in vats, tanks, pits, pipes, ducts, flues, chimneys, silos, containers, pressure vessels, underground sewers, wet or dry wells, shafts, trenches, tunnels, or other similar enclosed or partially enclosed structures. A space becomes a defined confined space if work carried out in it could generate harmful concentrations of airborne contaminants, or if it poses risks due to oxygen deficiency, engulfment, or restricted entry and exit.
The course includes both theoretical and practical components to ensure learners can confidently:
Identify confined space hazards and implement risk control measures
Prepare for confined space entry
Enter and work safely within confined spaces
Conduct gas testing where required
Use safety equipment including harnesses and communication tools
Monitor and support team members as a standby person
Apply emergency procedures and exit safely
for maintenance, servicing of vessels or other necessary reasons. You will also learn skills to understand permits and their limitations for confined spaces as well as the observer role for permits requiring a safety observer.
